‘The weight of the Flesh’ is a series of eight large-scale watercolours depicting animals, set in tension with photographs of humans. This mixed-media parallel intends to relocate humans in their right place, within the community of animals (and more-than-humans more largely). We sleep, eat, work, breed, swim, fly, defecate, and fight to sustain life as it consumes itself. We have teeth, hair, skin, blood, organs, etc.

Unconventional framings, inherited from photographs, call for the many other animals let out of range, and focus on the chosen quality or action.

I painted vertically, hence the watercolour runs on the paper with coloured lines cutting the page. It shows gravity and, by extension, the weight of being animals, of being alive.
